CDW recently published a special study on the push toward more significant automation-based reporting analytics and big data efforts in health care, affirming that the tools involved are already high on the priority list for many in the industry. As a reminder, acceptance and the process of embracing the idea of advanced analytics represent the first two steps that must be taken to reach proper deployments and optimal outcomes with the various investments involved. 

According to the report, the use of modern technologies is less of an option and more of a necessity in health care today, as regulations are becoming increasingly demanding when it comes to making information available and accurate for broader use by government officials. After all, the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act was most focused on building a national electronic medical record system that would assist officials in better managing population health over time. 

The researchers affirmed that roughly 66 percent of officials have placed the deployment and optimization of reporting analytics as a top priority, while dealing with the increasing costs of medical support appeared to be the most common driver of adoption. Acquiring the incentives within HITECH for meaningful use was the second-most cited driver and improving the accountability of operations occupied the third spot. 

Finally, the use of these tools is already having a substantive impact. CDW found that 82 percent of health care providers that have deployed data capture, content management, processing and reporting analytics tools have enjoyed stronger patient care performances, while 54 percent have seen real financial gains.
