Can the competitive edge be optimal without automation?

Can the competitive edge be optimal without automation?

As companies work to maximize productivity, reduce waste and drive efficiency across the board in the wake of the Great Recession, several technologies have prevailed as viable options to improve performance across the board. One, of course, is automation, which can quickly reduce the amount of time staff members spend on laborious tasks, inherently increasing quality, productivity and engagement on a large scale.

In some ways, organizations in many industries might simply not be able to reach their optimal performance levels without the help of automation, as these solutions are somewhat invaluable in the modern, fast-paced private sector. With solutions ranging from e-invoicing and data capture to procure-to-pay and ERP integration, accuracy, efficiency and productivity will be maximized in each department that enjoys an automation software deployment.

It's about to get real
Sometimes it will be easiest to see just how powerful automation can be when looking at the actions of those leading in the market. Automation World recently reported that automation vendors and manufacturers are beginning to work more closely in hopes of reducing the strain of the talent gap which is expected to be a major issue for certain industries in the coming years, especially in the United States.

Although automation cannot, and should not, replace staff members entirely, some believe that it will be critical in sustaining productivity regardless of whether the firm is having issues filling a specific role at one time or another. According to the news provider, the Control System Integrators Association has been leading the charge to build closer working relationships between automation vendors and manufacturers, as well as spearheading the spread of a new role called 'lead integrator.'

At the end of the day, these efforts will work toward more productive, efficient and, most importantly, resilient operational processes that do not get tripped up when staff sizes and expertise are short.

Applications in other businesses
Productivity and efficiency are certainly important matters for any business owner, but optimal operational environments will also be characterized by steadfast responses to unforeseen disruptive forces. Because automation takes such a significant level of stress off of core employees from necessary but repetitive tasks like expense reporting and the like, it should be clear that the average firm can sustain continuity of operations more effectively with these technologies.
