Ascent Capture Internet Server (ACIS) is the distributed scanning product of the Ascent product suite. ACIS adds internet/intranet capabilities to the Ascent product suite. It enables the inexpensive scanning of documents at remote sites then is automatically downloaded to the central site, finally synchronizing with the server.

ACIS is the only product enabling remote scanning, indexing and data capture via connections including dedicated lines to inexpensive dial-up service and corporate intranets. Throughout the entire process, ACIS provides complete security for transmitted images and data.

Using Microsoft's popular Internet Information Server, remote ACIS remote clients can be installed and set up in minutes with Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 6.0 and above. These Internet or intranet clients synchronize with the central Ascent server on a designated schedule.

ACIS allows the central site administrator to keep tight control of all configuration settings. Configuration changes made at the central site are automatically downloaded to all remote sites, ensuring the remote sites are always synchronized with the central site. Administrators also control the enabled features on each remote station such as simple scanning capabilities, indexing, data extraction and quality assurance. Inexperienced users gain the simplest possible interface and administrators can architect and control the enterprise-wide processing scheme.

In a typical ACI Server installation, each remote site is equipped with a standard Ascent Capture scan license. Remote sites perform scanning and other functions such as OCR and indexing. At the central site, the ACI Server runs on Windows NT Server or Windows 2000 Server with Microsoft IIS. Additional Ascent Capture stations performing post-scan functions such as forms processing, OCR, validation, and release are installed as needed on the central network. Remote stations use configuration information automatically downloaded from the central site. Completed scanned batches are transmitted to the central ACI Server, then routed to the other Ascent Capture stations on the central network. Normally processed batches are released to any of the standard back end imaging or document management systems supported by Ascent Capture.
