The core product of the Ascent product suite is Ascent Capture. It is a Windows based program running on a workstation. In a multi user environment, Ascent Capture centralizes the captured documents and/or data to a server designated as the Ascent Capture server.

This is the only product on the market today delivering all three key features of production capture including document capture, data capture, and internet capture, in a single, low-cost application.

Ascent Capture ingests all of an organization's incoming documents, including scanned documents, e-mail, XML or word processing files. With its companion products, Ascent Capture moves paper documents images from remote offices to a central workflow system without shipping any paper. Its companion products also allow scanning and indexing content from anywhere a copier and a Web browser are available. Ascent Capture boasts the fastest, most flexible scanning and automated indexing available.

Part two of the capture equation is the data existing on the documents. Ascent Capture automatically identifies forms and performs highly accurate recognitions such as: handwriting recognition known as intelligent character recognition (ICR), machine print known as optical character recognition (OCR), check marks known as optical mark recognition (OMR) and bar codes to extract even the toughest data from scanned images. Recently, Ascent Capture added the fast and powerful RecoStar family of OCR and ICR engines to the core product. These engines give administrators many more options in tuning recognition setups for your unique application, including full voting capabilities. Whether it is document index data or data extracted during forms processing, Ascent Capture has the tools. Ascent Capture is truly the "Operating System of Capture".

Ascent Capture Components
Ascent Capture provides several key tools to manage the many processes that may need to take place during the capture and data entry processes. These tools are referred to as queues. Different queues and the order of queues can be chosen for each capture process your organization needs to setup based on the different documents in the organization. Additionally, because Ascent Capture is an application built on top of a toolkit, organizations can build its own tools and import them into Ascent Capture. Once imported and registered with Ascent Capture, the tool is now available as a queue that can be used with any capture process. The standard queues available include:

Scan
The scan module creates batches, scans and imports documents, and edits the contents of batches.

Quality Control
The quality control module rescans pages or documents, validates form identification, and edits the contents of batches.

Recognition
The recognition server module separates a batch into documents, identifies the type of document, and extracts index information from the image.

Validation
The validation module enters index data manually and associates it with a document.

Verification
The verification module is used to validate the index data entered by another validation operator.

OCR
The optical character recognition (OCR) full text module performs OCR on an entire document and produces a file in a specified format for example, Word for Windows or ASCII.

Release
The release module writes documents and image files to permanent storage.
